The Great Oklahoma Classic for August 2011 belongs to Will and Cindy Myers of Norman, Oklahoma. This Studebaker
was built with all the right stuff! From the rich black paint to the 18 inch Boyd Coddington Chrome Wheels, this 1953 custom
Starlight Coupe is a real crowd pleaser!
The Studebaker’s eye catching paint job was done by Tim Fidanza’s Custom Paint and Body Shop
of Gasport, New York. Fidanza’s filled and shaved the hood, trunk, door handles as well as installed a modified grill
to add to the custom look of the PPG Deltron Black Paint job.
Dave
Ciappa from Lockport, New York engineered and built this outstanding Studebaker. Ciappa built the engine from a 1962 Corvette
327 cubic inch small block which he bored 30 over to its present 331 cubic inch. Dave installed an 201/256 Iskendarian Cam with valve springs and rockers by Comp Cams. The heads are Chevrolet Iron 350 heads
with GM Performance rods and pistons. To complement the looks of the engine, Billet Specialty powder coated valve covers were
installed which match the custom fabricated Delco port fuel injection manifold.
The
headers are iron rams horns design and have been smoothed and coated. The engine is mounted to a TCI 700-R4 transmission with
a 2100-rpm stall TCI Converter and a custom drive shaft attaches to a 9” Currie 3.25:1 rear end.
The
interior of the Starlight Coupe has the dash from a 1957 Silver Hawk with Dakota Digital gauges. The plush six way power custom
gray leather seats are from a 1990 Thunderbird.
The
steering wheel is a Billet Specialties unit mounted to a Iddit Custom Steering Column. The cool air is from a Vintage Air
system.
The tires on this black beauty are BF Goodrich 215/40-18’s on the front and 235/50-18’s on the
rear which are mounted on 18” Boyd Coddington Junkyard Dog Chrome Wheels.
The
frame for the Starlight Coupe is a modified 1962 Studebaker Hawk with custom-fabricated front clip. The suspension is by Heidt’s
Hot Rod Show of Wauconda, Illinois which includes dropped spindles, Air Ride airbags, Pro Shocks and Chassis Engineering sway
bar and SSBC Performance System disc brakes. The steering is rack and pinion by Heidt’s Hot Rod Shop.
The
underneath side of the Starlight Coupe has all the right stuff and is finished in the same detail as the rest of the quality
built custom Studebaker. The exhaust is 2 ½” aluminum coated with Flow Master Mufflers.
Will is a car guy from way back and won his first car show trophy in 1960. Will and Cindy have won numerous
awards with their beautiful 1953 Studebaker Starlight Coupe. The Cimarron Starlite
Cruisers sincerely thank Will and Cindy Myers for sharing their Studebaker Starlight Coupe as our Great Oklahoma Classic for
August 2011!
