Central Oklahoma Studebaker Drivers Club

The Cimarron Starlite Cruisers traveled to Del City May 17 to attend the annual Studebaker Driver's Open Car Show.  We were blessed with a great day and a whole host of great classic cars and trucks.

We left Jalopy’s Drive In, Perkins at 8:45am due to waiting on the cows tail, David Lester. John Dragoo in his 55 Chevy, lead us down Hwy 177 to Hwy 62 then to Sooner Road to SE 29th to the Oklahoma Country Music Hall of Fame facility in Del City.  Dan Turner drove his 1971 GMC Custom short bed pickup.  David Lester drove his 1954 Starlight Coupe Studebaker. Shelby Lauener drove his 1995 Pontiac Trans Am.  We arrived at the show site about 9:45 am and the parking lot was already full and of course being a Studebaker sponsored show they put the Dave and the Starlight Coupe up front with the other Studies and sent the rest of us to the back forty.

This is a great venue with very good food beginning with a big breakfast available until 11:00am and then they bring out the BBQ for lunch.  The President of the Studebaker Driver’s Club gave our Perkins Car Show a very good pitch that we sincerely appreciate.  The Cimarron Starlite Cruisers donated a free registration to the Perkins Car Show for a Door Prize, which was won by Johnny Hewett, of Choctaw and a member of the Central Oklahoma Classic Chevy Club.  The awards ceremony went smooth with Dan winning with his GMC and Dave winning with the Starlight Coupe.

On the trip home we went to I 35 and made our way North to the Braum’s in Guthrie.  We stopped at Braum’s to refuel with some of that great Braum’s Ice Cream.  We were able to make the trip home after the ice cream stop to finish a great day of tire kicking with some of Oklahoma’s best Classic Vehicle Folk’s. We are truly Blessed!

May 1 Cruisers’ Meeting

Twenty Cimarron Starlite Cruisers’ Car Club members met Thursday May 1 at D’Mario’s Pizza.  D’Mario’s Pizza has a very nice meeting room that will accommodate about twenty to twenty four folks.  There was an update on the 2008 Perkins Car Show and committees for various needs of the car show were announced.

New club member Jim McLaughlin was introduced and Jim gave us a brief history about himself and his love for classic vehicles. Welcome to the Cimarron Starlite Cruisers Car Club, JIM!

After a great Italian meal and club update meeting we went to the new Oklahoma Territorial Plaza to view our future meeting facility.  This 50’s service station is being refurbished and we as a club will try to be as much help as possible in getting the facility read for the plaza.  The station will be a true 50’s and 60’s era facility.

The Oklahoma Territorial Plaza will be a great feature for the City of Perkins and the surroundings communities. The plaza is located on five acres at 750 N Main Street, just south of the intersection of Highway 33 and US 177.  Many of the features are getting into place such as the Water spray Park, children’s play ground, the One-room Schoolhouse, the Service Station, a log cabin which was built in 1904, twelve foot statues of Chief Notchimine and Pistol Pete, a barn which will house farming equipment from the past and much more.
